Spyshots: BMW Teases New X6 M — Possibly A Diesel?

Wednesday, December 7th, 2011

The holidays are approaching and BMW apparently wants us to get some of our gifts early this year! Spy shots of a new X6 M are popping up all over the web and the employees at this NJ BMW dealership are begging for more information. Read the article below and watch the video to learn more about what’s in store with the new BMW X6 M.

Article by: Jake Holmes

We’re plenty familiar with the BMW X6 and its go-fast counterpart, the X6 M, but now the company is teasing a new version of the four-seat SUV. Although the car’s badges and lights are obscured, the video does say that BMW’s M GmbH has a hand in tweaking this new model.

We already knew that BMW was testing some sort of new engine in the X6 M, based on spy shots from the Nürburgring that emerged in August. Our best information suggests this car could have a high-output diesel engine. BMW reportedly has plans for a diesel-powered performance 5 Series — called the M550dX — that allegedly could offer about 381 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque.

The rumored tri-turbo, 3.0-liter diesel inline-six engine would be less powerful than the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 in a regular X6 M, but it could still move the sporty SUV with alacrity. The X6 M offers a solid 555 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque, while the regular X6 can be equipped with a 300-hp, turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, or a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 that makes 400 hp.

As this video is called Step 1, we imagine there will be several subsequent teaser videos before BMW finally shows the real car. Take a look at the video for yourself below, and check back later for any updates on this mysterious X6.

Stricter laws may leave N.J. teens facing tougher road to driver’s license

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Teens in New Jersey are now facing new challenges while attempting to receive their driver’s licenses. As a member of the DCH Auto Group, we here at BMW of Freehold are committed to teen safe driving. Whether your teen drives a new BMW or a used car, we are committed to keeping New Jersey roads safer. This article explains how NJ lawmakers are making it tougher for teens to take on the road.

Article by: Mike Frassinelli

Teen Safe Driving

Teenagers who are learning to drive — and their parents — would face a longer road to a driver’s license, under a tough new teen-driver safety law proposed in the Legislature.

Parents of teens with a driving learner’s permit would be required to take a teen driver-orientation course, and the teenagers themselves would have to practice driving for up to 100 hours, under the bill sent to the state Assembly.

The bill would also lengthen the current six-month driver permit phase to one year, giving New Jersey one of the strictest teen driver safety laws in the nation.

The bill advanced today by the Assembly Transportation Committee in an 8-0 vote would build on previous teen driver safety efforts, such as decals signifying the driver is under 18, and a limit of one passenger.

The decal provision was part of Kyleigh’s Law, named for Kyleigh D’Alessio, a 16-year-old honor student from West Morris Central High School who died in a December 2006 crash that also killed the teenage driver.

“Recognizing that no other age group on the road has a higher crash risk, lengthening the permit phase from a minimum of six months to 12 months will give teens the opportunity to practice driving over a longer period of time — which is critical,” said Pam Fischer, leader of the New Jersey Teen Safe Driving Coalition and the mother of a teen driver.

“When it comes to learning how to drive,” she said, “nothing takes the place of practice, practice, practice. Teens gain experience and build skill by driving on all types of roads, in all kinds of weather.”

The bill would toughen requirements for both teenage drivers with permits and for their parents or guardians.

It would mandate 16-year-old permit holders to have 50 hours of “practice driving,” in addition to the six hours of professional driver training that current law requires.

New drivers aged 17 or older are not required to take the six hours of professional training, and the bill would not mandate it, either. But they would be required to take 100 hours of practice driving — or be given the option of taking six hours of professional driving instruction and 50 hours of practice.

The practice-driving hours would be logged by parents, or a supervising adult driver, under an “honor system,” which would be one of the topics explained in a teen driver orientation course parents would have to take.

We’re enjoying the fall at this NJ BMW dealership and we’re also gearing up for 2012 and beyond! We’ve got some spy shots of the 2013 BMW M3 Sedan for you, courtesy of! Read below for the full scoop and the photos!

The upcoming 2013 BMW M3 Sedan was spied near Nurburgring race track. The test prototype showcases the typical M3 with a wide track, M front bumper, square LED headlights, large brakes and the signature four exhaust pipes at the rear.

Due out in 2013, the M3 Sedan will be followed by the M4 Coupe, the new naming convention that BMW contemplates using for the high-end sporty model of the 4 Series family.

BMW will continue to offer the new M3 in three body variants: sedan, coupe and convertible.

The design of the 2013 BMW M3 Sedan builds atop the newly unveiled F30 3 Series and will incorporate the typical M design cues. The biggest change within the M3 family will come this time from the engine offering. Same sources stated that for the past year BMW has been testing different powerplants in M3 prototypes, from inline-six turbo engines, to a newly designed and unique V6, and even the current V8 naturally aspirated engine.

We also recently learned that the V6 tested is a 3.3 liter BiTurbo engine with around 450 horsepower.

The new 2013 BMW M3 will make its debut at the Geneva Auto Show in March 2012.
